Coming in November—just in time for sunny escapes from cooler weather—guests sailing with Royal Caribbean will notice a few updates when enjoying the cruise line’s pools and onboard water features. From creative new signs to lifeguards at every pool, the new program will help raise guest awareness about the importance of water safety for families vacationing at sea. With the many slides, pools and aqua parks on our ships, safety should be on everyone’s mind.
Licensed lifeguards in easily recognizable red-and-white uniforms will staff all pools during their open hours (though adult supervision is required for children under 12). Royal Caribbean’s lifeguards have been trained and certified by StarGuard Elite, an industry leader in water risk prevention. For added security, complimentary swim vests for kids ages four through 12 are available at towel stations and will continue to be offered on every ship in every class.
The new, robust program also incorporates safety guidelines for all guests throughout their cruise vacation. Prominent, reimagined safety signage will engage parents and kids with messages like “Safety First. Swim Vests Are Best,” and “Play Smart. Swim Smart. Stay Safe.” All pools will be fitted with custom signs displaying pool rules, and those with TV screens also will play safety videos.
The commitment to uphold safety standards on every cruise doesn’t stop there. Guests receive information on water safety inside their staterooms, and can find child water safety flyers at guest services and Adventure Ocean.
Special emphasis is placed on education—for children, adults and crew members alike. Kids in Adventure Ocean participate in a fun water safety presentation where they run through instructions during the first evening’s safety drill. Teens are included with a water safety 411 session. Onboard select ships, trained lifeguards will offer swim lessons focusing on swimming essentials, too.
We know that part of an enjoyable vacation is staying carefree, which is one reason we’ve employed the cruise industry’s first chief meteorologist. With our extensive water safety program rolling out across our fleet, guests can rest easy while enjoying our cruises.
